My Richmond Fed

Brock began his journey at the Fed in summer 2019 as a Bank intern. After graduating from Christopher Newport University in May 2020, Brock transitioned into his current role as a Discover Analyst and hopes to find a permanent home after his time in the program. With a passion for finance, Brock has shared his talent through vendor services, both in the Treasury Services Division and Corporate Accounting.

The Discover program fosters a cohort experience for early career talent within the Bank. The two-year program allows analysts to work in two business lines to learn more about how the Fed operates and to help them find their best fit at the Bank. Brock currently supports the Financial Risk Management group. “I’ve loved my first rotation and can’t believe how good of a fit it has been since joining the group. I love that even during a pandemic, I feel as if I always have people checking up on me to make sure I’m doing okay, whether that be within Financial Risk Management or through the Discover program,” Brock shares. With a successful first rotation nearly complete, Brock is excited about any future opportunities to continue to grow and develop within the Fed.

While the Bank has taught Brock many lessons, he also credits his success and professional growth to his time at Christopher Newport University. Reflecting on his time in college, Brock recalls that “all events ran through the business school were business-professional attire and I took multiple classes and seminars on professional etiquette and business-encounters. Operating in such a formal business-like environment for three years really has helped the transition joining the workforce.” Despite the business-casual environment the Fed promotes, Brock credits his professional demeanor and etiquette to his education.

Although he began his time in Discover virtually, Brock shares praise of the work he and his team have completed. “Since starting at the Fed, I’ve done nothing but work in a team, gone through a formal process improvement, managed deadlines and produced high-quality outputs under the stress of those deadlines, and had to adapt to the work-from-home environment,” he says. He also attributes his comfort in virtual work to the Fed culture that promotes work-life balance and job security.

With a knack for personal development, Brock has already begun his pursuit towards obtaining his CPA license and plans on obtaining a master’s degree in his future.
